At Gospel City Church, everything flows from one ultimate purpose: to glorify God.His glory shapes our worship, our mission, and our community life. We believe Christ is to be preeminent in every aspect of life (Colossians 1:18), and that all things exist for Him and through Him (Romans 11:36). This conviction is not a side emphasis—it is the foundation of who we are.
Gospel City Church is a confessional church, meaning we affirm a historic summary of biblical doctrine as a clear expression of our core convictions. Rather than inventing our own statements, we joyfully stand with the church throughout history by embracing a confession that faithfully represents the teachings of Scripture. This keeps us grounded, united, and clear in what we believe and why and helps us and further strengthens us to “contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all handed down to the saints.” (Jude 3).
We fully subscribe to the historic London Baptist Confession of Faith of 1689. We do not hold our Confession as equal to or above Scriptures, but as an accurate expression of the system of doctrine taught in Scriptures.
Scripture Alone. We hold to the inerrancy, infallibility and sufficiency of Scripture. That means not only do we hold that all of Scripture is God’s Word, but that it is sufficient to accomplish all that God wants to do in His Church without any other human means. The proclamation of Scripture, therefore, is the centre of our worship.
Doctrines of Grace. We rejoice in the glorious truths that uphold the sovereignty of God in the salvation of men and affirm the great central reality that salvation is all of grace and that salvation is of the Lord!
The five Solas. The foundation stones of our doctrine are the Five Solas (Alone statements) expressed in the protestant reformation: Scripture Alone, Christ Alone, Grace Alone, Faith Alone, and the Glory of God Alone.
Creedal and Confessional. We uphold the essential doctrines of the historic Christian faith as set out in creeds such as the Apostles’ Creed, Nicene Creed, and Athanasian Creed. Our church’s confession is The Second London Baptist Confession of 1689. While we affirm Sola Scriptura, we recognise this confession as a trustworthy summary of Scripture’s teaching.
Covenant theology. The scriptures teach us that God the Father covenanted with God the Son, before time began, to save a people from the lost human race to the glory of his grace. God the Holy Spirit infallibly brings this purpose of God to pass, in time bringing people from every tribe, language, people, and nation to Himself through the Covenant of Grace.
As Reformed Baptists, we have much in common with other Reformed denominations. What marks us as distinct among other Reformed churches is our understanding of how to consistently apply the sign of the new covenant in relation to the sign of the old covenant, as well as how we see the Bible directing us to govern our church.
We believe that Baptism via immersion and the Lord’s Supper is for those with a credible profession of faith in Jesus Christ. We also believe that elder led, congregational upheld best reflects the pattern revealed in Scripture for Church governance.
Regenerative Church Membership. Only those who are saved by Jesus are part of the true church. As an expression of the universal church, the local church is a community of believers in a particular place united by common profession and confession, that has covenanted together for edification, encouragement, accountability, and evangelism of the lost. The local church is where the Word of God is preached, the ordinances of Baptism and the Lord’s Supper are observed, and scriptural discipline is exercised.
Believer’s Baptism. Gospel City Church performs believers’ baptisms only for those with a credible faith, which means we reject infant Baptism as unscriptural and invalid in the life of a professing Christian.
New Covenant people. We are a people chosen by the Father, saved by Christ’s work, and regenerated by the Spirit of God in the Covenant of Grace. Believers are called out of the world, gathered as a local autonomous body, committed to discipleship and evangelism to the glory of God.
A careful reading of the NT epistles shows that the apostles assumed that the readers were ‘saints’, ‘faithful brethren’, and ‘cleansed by Christ. Scripture says in Ephesians 5:25 that “Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy.” The term ‘the church’ applies to all those who are saved by the death of Christ. That necessarily includes all true believers for all time – both believers in the New Testament age and believers in the Old Testament age.
Means of grace: The means of grace are God’s appointed instruments by which the Holy Spirit enables believers to receive Christ and the benefits of redemption. God assigned the Word (Read, sung, and preached), ordinances (Baptism, Lord’s Supper), and prayer as the foremost means He communicates Christ and His benefits to believers.
The Lord’s Day: The Lord’s Day is a Christian institution for regular observance. It should be employed in exercises of worship and spiritual devotion, both in public and private.
We invite you to join us as we gather to worship, grow in Christ, and live for the glory of God.
